Amid heavy security arrangements, the SIT took Mishra, his close associate Ankit Das, Das’s body guard Latif and Ankit’s driver Shekhar Bharti to the spot of the crime and recreated the scene using police vehicles. Eight persons, including four farmers, had died after Mishra and others in at least two SUVs allegedly ploughed into a crowd of farmers on October 3. But the farmers appeared to be dissatisfied with Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesman Rakesh Tikait reiterating their demand for the dismissal of Teni. Alleging that the investigating agency was going soft on Mishra’s inter rogation, Tikait termed the probe a guldaston wali puch-tach (probe where bouquets are being presented). “The red carpet arrest of the minister’s son, who is the main accused in the incident, has fuelled anger among the protesting farmers,” the BKU leader said. He claimed that the minister was influencing the SIT investigation. “The whole world understands that no justice can be given if the minister whose son is being investigated continues to hold his chair. We are completely dissatisfied by the manner in which investigations are being conducted.” Before taking the accused to the spot, the SIT led by DIG Upendra Ag arwal brought all the accused together and cross questioned them for over an hour. Thursday was the last day of Mishra’s police remand. Das was ar rested on Wednesday after being questioned for over four hours at Lakhimpur Kheri crime branch office. Sources said Ankit was asked about his presence during the violence, to which he admitted that he was present in the car following the SUV owned by Mishra. Das denied that Mishra was at the crime scene. The sources said when he was asked asked why he did not stop the vehicle when the farmers were being crushed by Mishra’s SUV Das report, edly said if he had stopped his vehicle he would have been lynched by the angry farmers so he sped away . Das reportedly told the SIT he was going to receive the chief guest around 2.30 pm when the farmers attacked the convoy with sticks, stones and sharpedged weapons. As a result, Mishra’s driver lost control and ran over the farmers.
