FOR the first time, the national capital crossed the 4,000 mark in per day Covid-19 cases. As per the state health bulletin issued on Wednesday the , city registered 4,039 cases, the highest since March 2, when the first case was reported. The last time Delhi saw the highest cases in a single day was on June 23 with 3,947 cases. Since then the cases had dropped. However, from the mid-August, fresh positives started showing an upward trend. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, however, played down the matter and said there was no need to worry . “The day also marked the highest number of tests, 54,517, against 15,000-20,000 till last week. If we did the same number of tests, today’s cases would be less than 1,500. So, don’t be scared,” he tweeted. “The number of deaths continues to be low. It is 20 today , against more than 100 per day in June. Through aggressive testing, we are isolating the positive cases and preventing the pandemic spread,” Kejriwal said. As the CM continued to put up a brave front, his Aam Aadmi Party government indicated that migrants were responsible for the spike in cases. This was clear on Wednesday in a review meeting where the CM, Health Minister Satyendar Jain, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev, senior officials and RAFALE AIRCRAFT TO BE FORMALLY INDUCTED TODAY PART of actress Kangana Ranaut’s bungalow in Mumbai was demolished by the Shiv Sena-run Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday citing illegal alter, ations in the building. Kangana, a three-time National Award Winner, tweeted some of the videos and photos of the demolition process. “I am never wrong and my enemies prove again and again this is why my Mumbai is POK now,” she tweeted soon after the demolition work began. The actor, who returned to Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon from her home state Himachal Pradesh, alleged the Maharashtra government was targeting her because of her criticism of the Shiv Sena. A three-judge bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao referred the matter to a larger bench, to be set up by Chief Justice of India S A Bobde, for final adjudication. However, the bench said those who have availed the reservation shall not be affected. The SC is seized of a batch of petitions challenging the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Act, which provides for reservation to Marathas. The high court had ruled that it should not exceed 12% for education and 13% for government jobs as recommended by Maharashtra State Backw a rd C l a s s Commission. The HC had said the 50% cap on total reservations imposed by the SC could be exceeded in exceptional cases. It had accepted the Maharashtra government’s argument that the Maratha community was socially and educationally backward, and the state was duty-bound to take steps for its upliftment.
